My Secrets to Fitness, Discipline, and Entrepreneurial Success

As the founder and CEO of Jim’s Group, I’ve had the privilege of growing our franchise into over 50+ divisions with thousands of franchise owners across Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the UK.

But my success doesn’t just come from business strategy—it stems from discipline, personal health, and a lifestyle built around intentional habits.

In a conversation with Joel Kleber, I opened up about the diet, fasting, and exercise routines that have shaped not just my body, but my ability to lead with clarity and energy.

These routines have been just as critical to building Jim’s Group as any marketing campaign or operational strategy.

Discipline Is My Foundation

At the core of everything I do is discipline.

I firmly believe that success in business—and in life—requires a relentless commitment to doing what’s right, even when it’s hard.

I’ve always said, “The key to success in franchising is an overriding concern for the welfare of franchisees, and constant improvement in customer service.”

But that same drive spills into how I manage my day-to-day life.

My health, my habits, my mindset—they all stem from clear goals and consistent follow-through.

Why I Fast

Intermittent fasting has become one of my greatest tools for health and productivity.

I follow a 16:8 routine—fasting for 16 hours and eating within an 8-hour window.

During the fast, I stick to water, black coffee, or tea.

This practice helps my body function better, from digestion to cellular repair, and it sharpens my mind.

Fasting isn’t just physical for me. It builds mental discipline.

Controlling impulses and delaying gratification helps me lead with clarity, especially when big decisions come knocking.

My Strength Training Routine

Weight training is a non-negotiable part of my lifestyle.

I focus on compound exercises—squats, deadlifts, bench presses—and also add isolation movements to target specific muscle groups.

Over time, I’ve learned to push myself safely, with progressive overload and strict form.

But for me, it’s not just about the physical benefits.

Lifting gives me space to focus, disconnect, and reset mentally.

The discipline I build in the gym directly fuels the resilience I bring to running the business.

What I Eat

I believe in whole, unprocessed food.

My meals are built around lean proteins, healthy fats, and nutrient-dense carbs.

I avoid sugar and processed junk because I’ve seen firsthand how they wreck focus and energy.

Here’s a typical day for me:

  • Breakfast: Oatmeal with berries, nuts, and a hard-boiled egg
  • Lunch: Grilled salmon or chicken over a salad with avocado
  • Dinner: Quinoa or brown rice, roasted vegetables, and lean protein like tofu or steak
  • Snacks: Greek yogurt with fruit, raw nuts, or hummus with veggie sticks

This consistent diet supports my training and keeps my mind sharp throughout long workdays.

Balancing Business and Wellness

To me, success is about more than money or growth.

It’s about living well.

When I take care of my body and mind, I lead better.

I stay sharper.

I connect more deeply with my franchisees.

I’m present.

This philosophy guides how I run Jim’s Group.

I stay deeply involved in day-to-day operations, connect regularly with our franchisees, and make it a priority to support their personal and professional development.

I also go live weekly on Facebook to share insights—not just about business but about life, mindset, and health. I believe in leading by example.
